Chabas (pt III)

Chabas's carer Lucy has just sent me this picture of Chabas on YET ANOTHER holiday.  It's Thailand this time and here he is splashing about in Kho Phi Phi.

I do hope you didn't make Phi Phi in that nice turquoise water, Chabas.

Tarquin, Mungo & Splash

A Letter From The Outer Hebrides
Tarquin is settling in with Mungo and Splash well...between the two of us it will do the boys well to have a more learned and calming influence amidst them. The younger ones are doing well and in recent months have been busying themselves around the house making holts out of any scraps of material, newspapers and the throw cushions from the sofa. Mungo is continuously devising cunning schemes of adventure, that can only be belayed by trips away to Harris, Eriskay and Barra...and once they are on the beach they run riot, frolicking amongst the kelp and weeds, watching the rockpools and rings of bright water, fishing, eating pond weed and trying to make friends with the other otter families...which does not always bode well. Poor little Splash does not understand why the other otters feel threatened by him and his brother, but I have tried to explain the nature of wild otter communities many times, bless him. It snowed yesterday and I came home to find them on the window sill looking up, on asking what they were up too..."looking for Mr Christmas" the replied came. Silly things. I think the move for us from Hampstead (albeit they loved their freedom on the heath) to the Outer Hebrides has done the family (adults included) wonders, although we are all longing for the summer, and long bright days stretched out on the Machair.

I hope all is well in Brighton,

Kindest Regards and Warm Wishes,

Mungo, Splash, Tarquin
and
Bosun and Magdalena

Stan (pt III)

Stan the fearless otter continues his South American adventures - this time in Brazil.

Dining with man in a strange pointy hat.
Continuing on his quest for exotic birds - it's parrots this time.
With Jesus on Sugar Loaf Mountain.
Really leaning in to get a better view of Rio de Janeiro.
The view from Sugar Loaf Mountain. WOW.

Augustus At Christmas

Augustus (and I) would like to wish you all an otterly Merry Christmas!

Stan (pt II)

Oh Stan.  I am officially beyond jealous.

Stan's carer Mary has sent us another set of Stan's holiday snaps. He's currently having the time of his life hanging round the Iguazu Falls on the Brazilian/Argentine border.

 WOWZA!

After all this excitement, Stan relaxes with some lovely flamingos.

Can't wait to find out what Stan gets up to next.

Oscar

Lucky Ilona has two otters living with her.

We've just seen what Eric's been up to (see post below this one) now here's an insight into Oscar's busy world.

Oscar isn't letting the fact that he's wielding a bouquet of flowers hold him back.  Oh no.  He's helping Ilona set up a science lab.

Inspecting the chemical cupboard.

Oscar is in charge of pens.

Is that the chemical structure of fish you're sitting on, Oscar?

This is seriously impressive stuff, Oscar.  Skills.

Eric

Ilona sent in this great picture of her otter Eric guarding her Christmas presents.  No peeping or shaking please, Eric.  And I like your necklace very much.

Stan (pt I)

Great excitement is flooding the Fuzzy holt today as we've just received the first holiday snaps from Stan.

Stan's currently in Buenos Aires, Argentina with his carer, Mary, and he says it's jolly hot out there.  I'm a tiny bit jealous as I'm stuck in Brighton trying to grow my winter coat to keep out the chilly wind.

The excellent picture below shows Stan soaking up some rays after an exhausting 18 hour bus journey.

He says he has sweaty fur.

Augustus sulla vacanza

And that means 'on holiday' in Italian!

Augustus is just back from a fantastic trip to Venice and his carer Skye made sure she took lots of pictures of him having lots of fun (and treats) and getting in a bit of sightseeing.

Are you ready?

Here we go.

About to take off from London Gatwick, Augustus is lucky enough to have a really excellent window seat.

On board the water taxi in Venice!  Lovely ears, Augustus.

Augustus is in charge of all the travel essentials

I'm not sure if he dived into the canal after this shot was taken.

Wow!  Red wine and snacks.

Posing in St Mark's Square

Awesome picture.

The rumours that otters like coffee are true!  Hope that espresso didn't cost a small fortune.

Otter vs. lion. So brave!

Augustus

Hello otter fans!

Please allow me to introduce you to Augustus, who has gone to live with Skye.

Skye likes to sew and it seems that she has been passing on a few tips to Augustus as he's already halfway through a patchwork Christmas stocking.  Nice work, Augustus.

And rather excitingly, we hear that Augustus may soon be off on holiday to a wet place that otters might really love.  Now where might that be . . . ?  Check back soon to find out.

Chabas (pt II)

I think Chabas the otter deserves the Global Otter Of The Year award.  He's clocked up an impressive number of countries and lives life to the full when he's there.

Here he is in Unawatuna Beach in Sri Lanka (I like saying Unawatuna over and over again - it's funny).

His carer Lucy says, 'Chabas loves a good cuppa & thoroughly enjoyed his guided tour around the tea plantation today, he favours Suicide Tea (black with a little whiskey) as his favourite!'

And a bit closer to his birthplace, he's doing a bit of map reading in preparation for a trip to Cornwall.
